the yarning Artwork

about the artist

Indigenous artist Eddie Longford has spent the majority of his life on Ngunnawal, Ngambri and Wiradjuri Country. He is passionate about creating artwork that reflects the land he grew up on and holds great significance to his family.

His art pays homage to the Ngunnawal, Ngambri and Wiradjuri traditional owners by incorporating elements of their land into his work. Eddie’s artistic style is a blend of contemporary First Nationas influences, drawing from traditional styles found throughout Australia, as well as non-traditional elements and vibrant colours, giving his pieces a unique and easily recognisable character. Eddie specialises in harmonising traditional hues with bold non-traditional shades and he takes great pride in the meticulous detail of his work.

More of Eddie’s work can be found on Facebook and Instagram.

artist statement

The design represents the House Of Representative on traditional lands – the design incorporates Mother Earth, the waterways and the sky. The design is all about the connection to community and people coming together.

The centre circle is the House of Reps, the shapes inside are the representatives (Members) and the shapes on the outside are the people (constituents). On each side of the centre circle are our communities – they are overseeing the parliament.

The next part of the design is the mountains and the waterways. On the outer side of the mountains are our communities from further away (this is the shapes and the outer circles, which represents the people and their home). The next part of the design is the sky.
