Gerrit Wanganeen

Gerrit Wanganeen traces his heritage on his father’s side to the Narungga people of Yorke Peninsula, South Australia. Gerrit was born on Ngunnawal country (Canberra) and lived there for most of his life. He moved to Larrakia Country (Darwin) in 2019 and then to Yolngu country (Nhulunbuy) in November 2022.

Gerrit has been the Regional Manager of Arnhem Land and Groote Eylandt for the National Indigenous Australians Agency since August 2022. His previous roles have included the Deputy Registrar and Acting Registrar within the Office of the Registrar of Indigenous Corporations (ORIC).

Before joining ORIC in 2013, Gerrit worked in the Australian Public Service Commission and (briefly) ATSIC.

Gerrit is passionate about Australian Rules football and has been involved as a player, coach and administrator for most of his life.
